Get to Know Alicia

How would you describe yourself?

I would describe myself as strong, caring, and an independent go-getter. I am constantly striving to better myself, to be someone today my future self can look back on and be proud of.

Who is another woman who has inspired you in your life? Why does she inspire you? What are some of her compelling qualities?

One of the women that inspire me significantly is my Abuela, Elsa Berroa. In her early 30’s, she traveled to the U.S. as a single mother, with her three children, in hopes of a better life, to live “The American Dream.” She went straight to the mills to begin working and eventually purchased her own home. Her children and grandchildren grew up in this home, went to school, and became who they are today with what she was able to provide. I hope that someday, I can repay her for her sacrifices.

If you could have 1 hour of uninterrupted time with her, what would you do ? What would you talk about? Where would you go?

I love to be in my Abuela’s company, especially while she is cooking. Aromas of our culture always bring out our history.
